Gesher’s Choices Program provides enriching activities for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to help them stay active and involved in the community. Choices utilizes an individualized, person-centered planning model to best meet the interests and needs of each person.

About This Volunteer Opportunity
As a volunteer Direct Support Aide, you will make a meaningful impact on our community by helping to maximize opportunities for personal success, fun, friendship, and community involvement of adults with intellectual and development disabilities. You will assist Choices staff and participants with a variety of engaging activities, including community outings, arts and crafts, life skills lessons, and more! Your time and support help create a fun, inclusive environment in which participants can thrive.

What we ask of you in this role:
• Actively engage with participants, supporting their social and community engagement skills.
• Understand and support individual goals for participants.
• Assist Choices staff with daily tasks, including setting up activities and helping to clean up, as needed.
• Volunteers may collaborate with staff to develop and facilitate activities.
• Have a general understanding of agency, ethical and professional standards and practices.
• Successfully complete any required training and/or competency assessments.

You might be a good fit for this role if you:
• Are age16 or older.
• Have some experience working with special populations.
• Are able to respond to participants’ individual needs with kindness and understanding.
• Have a flexible schedule Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Can commit to sharing 18 to 24 hours over three months.
