Volunteer Position: Infant Room Support                                                                                       Department: Improving The Lives Of Children                                                                                Program:  Early Childhood                                                                                                                    Director:  SIte Director                                                                                                                          Supervisor: Infant Room Supervisor                                                                                                 Day(s): Any day, Monday - Friday                                                                                                         Hours: Flexible shifts between: 8 am and 10:30 am and/or 12 pm and 3 pm

This position does not require volunteers to be scheduled Monday-Friday, nor volunteer all day. We offer flexible days (s) and Hours(s) within the listed times.

Primary Function: Provide nurturing, attentive care and support for infants in a safe, loving, and positive environment,  reflecting the mission and values of the YWCA. This opportunity not only supports the healthy development of our youngest children but also offers a deeply healing and rewarding experience for those who find joy and comfort in caring for babies. Qualifications:

1. 18 years of age                                                                                                                                 2. Must be comfortable with holding, feeding, and rocking infants                                              3. Relate and engage well with children and adults                                                                        4. Ability to safely hold and rock infants                                                                                            5. Ability to sit in a rocking chair for a long period of time                                                            6. Must be able to bend, twist, and sit for periods of time                                                                    7. Must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds                                                    8. Must agree to fingerprinting prior to volunteering. YWCA covers related costs

Responsibilities:

1. Feed, rock, and comfort infants as needed (no diaper changes required).

2. Attend to infants’ needs and promptly notify staff of any diapering needs.

3. Create a warm, supportive, and safe atmosphere for all children.

4. Maintain strict confidentiality of any sensitive or personal information obtained through the role.

5. Follow all YWCA policies and guidelines to ensure the well-being of infants and the integrity of the program.

Training:

1. Safe Baby Sleep

2. Required Childcare Training provided by YWCA Kalamazoo.

3. General understanding of the YWCA’s mission and values.
