In late March 10 counties in northern Michigan experienced a significant ice storm that caused damage to trees, homes, and other structures. Help is still needed especially for those who are seniors and those living with disabilities. The Michigan Community Service Commission, MI VOADS and many faith organizations are continuing to help meet the needs of more than 1200 residents who have asked for help. Those in need of assistance are those who are unable to do the work themselves and the cost of hiring the work exceeds their capabilities. We are seeking both skilled and unskilled volunteers to assist. When you respond below, a member of our team will follow up with you and we will keep you informed of upcoming clean up events.
The following counties were impacted and still have residents in need of help: Alcona, Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Mackinaw, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle.
Here's what's needed:
1. Groups of volunteers to pick up branches, rake and clean up properties.
2. Volunteers who are skilled at using a chainsaw to cut trees into smaller pieces.
3. Volunteers who have trucks or trailers who would be able to haul debris to transfer stations in counties where the service is available.
For Skilled Volunteers:
1. Roof repair including tarping the hole repair
2. Tree Service to remove trees that are hung up on other trees
3. Wood chip operators with own wood chipper
4. Tractor operators who can move logs/fallen trees
If you are able to help meet any of these needs on a volunteer basis, please respond below.
