Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County partners with donors, volunteers, and future homeowners to build and preserve safe, decent, affordable homes right here in our community. We raise funds locally and work alongside families through an affordable homeownership model, while also engaging neighbors and partners to strengthen whole neighborhoods. As part of the global Habitat mission, we tithe a portion of locally raised funds to help build homes abroad; since 1995, our local work has supported more than 1,700 individuals and families on their path to stability.
Programs We Offer
Homeownership Program
We help qualified homebuyers move from substandard housing into newly built or renovated, energy-efficient, affordable homes. Families partner with Habitat, complete financial education, contribute sweat equity, and purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage.
Financial Coaching (“Habitat University”)
Applicants receive one-on-one budgeting and credit coaching from a HUD-certified housing counselor, plus classes on money management, credit, debt, and banking—support that continues along the path to homeownership.
Critical Home Repair (Roofs, Ramps & Repairs)
For current homeowners, we preserve safe, decent, affordable housing by fixing major issues—roof replacements, accessibility ramps, weatherization, code and safety repairs. We also operate city partnerships (e.g., Pontiac and Madison Heights) that fund eligible repair projects for local residents.
Volunteer Opportunities
Thousands of volunteers build and repair homes with us each year—on construction sites, in ReStores, and through special opportunities for groups, faith communities, businesses, and individuals. We also host community-service volunteers at our Waterford and Southfield ReStores.
Habitat ReStores (Waterford, Southfield)
Our ReStores are nonprofit home-improvement outlets and donation centers selling new and gently used furniture, appliances, cabinets, building materials, and more—at a fraction of retail. Proceeds directly support local homebuilding, rehab, and repairs.
Community Partnerships & Engagement
We rely on corporations, faith groups, civic organizations, and individual partners for the funding, materials, and volunteer power that make affordable homeownership and repairs possible across Oakland County.
Our Local & Global Commitment
Habitat Oakland raises funds locally and tithes a portion of every home built here to help build a home abroad—linking our local impact to Habitat’s global mission.
Eligibility & Income Guidance
Program eligibility (including income limits tied to Area Median Income) varies by offering and funding source; some assistance is capped at lower AMI thresholds. Current limits and details are posted on our site.
