Volunteer: Girls' Program TutorMercy Education Project (MEP) is a learning community that believes every girl has a right to reach her full potential. MEP focuses on math and reading improvement with evidenced based, one-to-one tutoring for girls grades 2-12. We help girls who are one or more years behind their grade level in reading or math to gain the academic confidence they need to succeed in school. Volunteer tutors are needed in-person for a once-a-week commitment from 5:30-6:30 pm during the school year (September - May). Our one-to-one afterschool tutoring program fosters meaningful relationships that support the whole student. Substitute tutors are also needed. Training is provided as part of the volunteer tutor onboarding process. Our learning program includes individualized student curriculum using online software. All prospective tutors complete an application form, a background check, online training modules, and in-person training. Volunteer: Love to Read? We need you!Teach one learner how to read by focusing on letters, sounds, and spelling patterns. You’ll be able to teach learners of all ages and abilities how to read better. Our scripted curriculum, The Barton Reading and Spelling System, was designed with you in mind. Each lesson, list, and reading passage is scripted so you can focus on getting to know your learner and help them reach their goals. You'll work with the same learner two hours a week until they reach grade level. Most of our learners have warning signs of dyslexia, the most common cause of reading failure. COVID-19 disrupted education delivery across the country. The demand for reading tutors is higher than ever.
