The MI Crossroads Council of Scouting America is organizing a statewide 9/11 Community Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute on 9/11.

Join the community of Mason to support our first responders.  Volunteers will wash trucks, clean up the fire station and join the community for a moment of silence to honor those impacted and lost during the 9/11 attacks.

Time varies, to volunteer call the Mason City Hall at 517-676-9155.

Join Sleep in Heavenly Peace for two national build days.  The organization provides beds for children in need.  The first event is August 26 from 2-4 and currently has the capacity for 10 volunteers.  The 9/11 events are on September 11 from 2-4 pm and September 12 starting at 7 pm.

Freedom House Detroit ("FHD") will celebrate the National Day of Service, on 9/11 from noon - 4pm, through beautification and outdoor activation activities at our Southwest Detroit headquarters. FHD has held these types of events each spring since 2023. But because much of the site was under construction for the past year, the events were paused. Now that the East Campus expansion project is complete, it’s time to resume these service projects and turn it up a notch.

Volunteers are asked to stay and enjoy a BBQ Picnic after the work is complete.

The Oceana County Day of Caring, scheduled for September 11, will serve as United Way of the Lakeshore’s observance of the National 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. The event will engage community volunteers in meaningful service projects that honor veterans, support military families, and preserve the legacy of those who have served our country. Planned projects include collecting and preserving local veterans' stories through the Veterans History Project, conducting a cemetery cleanup with a focus on cleaning and restoring veterans' headstones, and constructing two flag recycling boxes to provide a respectful method for retiring worn American flags. Additional projects may be added as volunteer registration and community needs are assessed. Volunteers will participate in hands-on service activities, including building, assembling, and painting flag recycling boxes; cleaning and preserving veteran headstones; interviewing veterans; and cataloging photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia that document their military service. Through these projects, volunteers will honor the sacrifices of veterans, preserve important local history, and strengthen connections between community members, service organizations, and military families. By transforming a day of remembrance into a day of action, the Oceana County Day of Caring will provide meaningful opportunities for residents to serve their neighbors, recognize the contributions of veterans, and foster a stronger sense of community engagement and civic responsibility.

The TCC Lobbies and Grounds Enhancement Project will engage volunteers in projects that enhance the mental and behavioral health services provided by TCC while creating welcoming, healing-centered spaces for children and families. By improving both the interior and exterior of TCC’s campus, volunteers will help create environments that reduce stress, promote safety and belonging, and support the social determinants of health that influence children's well-being. The three areas of volunteer engagement include outdoor beautification, child-friendly lobby enhancements, and a community rock garden refresh. 1. Outdoor Beautification Volunteers will improve TCC’s outdoor spaces through weeding, trimming, seasonal cleanup, debris removal, and general grounds maintenance to create safe, clean, and welcoming environments for children and families. A well-maintained campus contributes to mental and emotional well-being and supports the care being provided by TCC clinicians. 2. Child-Friendly Lobby Enhancements Volunteers will transform the child areas in TCC’s two lobbies into welcoming, engaging spaces designed to reduce stress and anxiety, engage children as they wait, and create a positive first impression for children and families. Enhancements will include assembling and installing child-sized colorful tables and chairs, themed bookshelves stocked with children's books, wall-mounted animal-themed sensory/busy boards, and fresh, bright paint and décor. These improvements will encourage play, learning, and comfort while supporting TCC’s trauma-informed approach from the moment families enter our buildings. 3. Painted Rock Garden Refresh TCC will host designated open sessions where children, families, and adult clients can paint and add a personalized rock to the existing rock garden. This simple, accessible activity provides clients with an opportunity to volunteer, contribute to the campus, and leave a lasting mark on a shared community space. The refreshed rock garden will promote creativity, belonging, and pride while creating a colorful reminder of the caring community that surrounds TCC clients. Together, these volunteer projects will create more welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces that reduce barriers to wellness, strengthen trust between families and TCC, and enhance the effectiveness of the organization's mental and behavioral health services for the community.

Our youth want to run a military and veteran appreciation dinner for 9/11 this year. Our youth will be teaching other youth within the Boys & Girls Club of Alpena what different branches of the military do, along with what it means to serve our country. Our youth will be making "Thank You" cards (thank you for your service and thank you for coming to our appreciation dinner). Our youth will also be making placemats for the dinner, while some of our teens will be at the dinner helping with set-up, serving food, and serving drinks!

9/11 Hearts of Service: Honoring Heroes Through Mental Health Advocacy is a community volunteer initiative that honors the spirit of September 11 by equipping volunteers to support the mental well-being of others through education and service. Community of Hearts will engage more than 200 volunteers, including youth, families, veterans, first responders, community organizations, and AmeriCorps members, in a day dedicated to compassion, remembrance, and action. The event will begin with a brief 9/11 remembrance and recognition of veterans and first responders, followed by a condensed Mental Health Advocate Training that teaches participants how to recognize signs of stress, trauma, grief, and emotional distress, reduce stigma, and confidently connect individuals with appropriate mental health resources. Following the training, volunteers will immediately put their new skills into action by assembling and preparing Calm & Care Kits containing self-care items, encouraging messages, and local mental health resources. Volunteers will write handwritten notes of appreciation, organize resource packets, and help distribute the kits to veterans, first responders, seniors, and community members experiencing isolation or emotional hardship. This project honors the legacy of 9/11 by transforming remembrance into meaningful service, creating new Mental Health Advocates while providing tangible support and hope to individuals throughout our community.

Volunteers age 55+ needed to prepare food boxes in Pontiac. Drivers also needed to get the food to those in need. Clerical positions available as well.Shifts available to fit your schedule, weekdays. Help people get the food they would not otherwise have access to.

Dedicated volunteers are needed on a weekly basis to support our warehouse operations and help us distribute food to our neighbors who need it.

We’re looking for adults 55+ to spend time visiting other older adults who could use a companion. You provide connection and conversation (not medical or personal care).

Through AmeriCorps Seniors, Senior Companion volunteers:

All volunteers receive training and ongoing support with their match from Senior Neighbors staff.

We have limited spots available for our next scheduled orientation.

Artist liaisons make up a crucial role in the annual Art & Apples Festival by providing artists with snacks, water, or by booth sitting while they take a short break. Artist liaisons do not sell on behalf of the artist. 

All volunteers receive a complimentary t-shirt and entry to the festival. Please dress for the weather, as this is an outdoors event. 

Volunteers under the age of 16 will need an adult present during their volunteer shift. If community service hours verification is needed, please inform Hunter prior to your shift so she can verify. 

Helpers in the Kids Art Zone assist families and children with making a free, easy craft. PCCA staff and faculty will be supervising this area to show helpers how to make the craft before they teach others.

For volunteers under the age of 16, an adult will need to be present to supervise. If community service hour verification is needed, please bring your hours sheet and ask a PCCA staff member to verify.

Join Habitat for Humanity in Lansing to spend 9/11 in service to others.  Volunteers will be working in a selected neighborhoods to do home repairs and construction.  Please sign up by emailing:  volunteer@habitatcr.org

Volunteers will assemble meal bags and health information in August - September 1st to distribute to unhoused individuals in Wayne County.
