Volunteer: Medicare Counseling VolunteerAre you someone who enjoys working with older adults and would like to help them access services to live a healthy, secure life? MI Options through DHHS partners with organizations statewide to provide volunteers with training on how to navigate Medicare and long-term services. This volunteer role can make a true difference in the lives of seniors and people with disability in our state. This role is ideal for both in person and virtual service. Ideal candidates include retirees (including snowbirds), working professionals, students interested in healthcare, counseling, social work, and those desiring to be a support person for older adults. The role is very flexible according to your schedule and the busiest time is during Medicare open enrollment from October 15 - December 7 annually. This role is also ideal for those who anticipate supporting themselves or loved ones through the Medicare process and want to understand the program fully. Training is provided by the MI Options program through DHHS. Training is online and support is available through a mentor who works with each volunteer on one-on-one basis. Refresher training, recertification, and access to resources are provided. Volunteers will be paired with a local agency serving older adults and will benefit from the ongoing support, connection, and recognition of service within the organization's volunteer program.
