As a volunteer receptionist, you will greet visitors, thank donors and do light clerical tasks.  This is a great way for community members to become involved in our work on a low-key scale. Training will be provided in person and on self-paced videos. Receptionists are asked to make a weekly commitment (three to four hours) during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm) for the summer as a minimum. We encourage all volunteers to stay in their roles for up to 6 months.

Volunteers are needed to assist the resale store staff with receiving, sorting and processing donations. The resale store is a resource for those served and the sale of donated items generates unrestricted funds for the agency's use. The store hours are Monday - Saturday, 10 am - 7 pm. The Alliance for the Great Lakes is a nonpartisan nonprofit working across the Great Lakes region to protect our most precious resource: the fresh, clean, and natural waters of the Great Lakes. We are active in advocacy, volunteering, education, and research. One of the ways to advance our efforts is by becoming an Alliance Ambassador.  

Alliance Ambassadors 

We give Ambassadors training about the Great Lakes and how best to advocate to protect them. Virtual meetings are held throughout the year where Ambassadors can learn from experts about Great Lakes topics like plastic pollution, invasive species, and water infrastructure. We also help Ambassadors build skills like public speaking and tabling. 

As an Ambassador, you will have many opportunities to take action for the lakes: 

- Give presentations to community, youth, and business groups about the Great Lakes and the threats they face 

- Table at community events to raise awareness about the Great Lakes and the Alliance 

- Share information and spread awareness on social media 

- And more! 

The Alliance is here to support you every step of the way. We provide all needed supplies and event preparation and reimburse for event costs, such as parking. Volunteers will help prep, cook, and clean where needed. Volunteers may also serve food to those in need. Volunteers also make coffee and serve clients. Volunteers may also mingle with the clients who are eating or relaxing in the cafeteria.

We are a nonprofit that serves the frail elderly in our community. We have

70 participants daily in our 3 Day Centers housed in our building at

2940 Ellsworth Rd in Ypsilanti.

We need volunteers to assist with a variety of activities like crafts or

group game time. Some volunteers play background piano music for

participants in our memory care Day Center or read stories to them. Our

biggest need is for volunteers to talk individually with our participants.

The time of greatest need is from 9:30am to 3pm Monday through Fridays.

However, we also need a few “Greeters” who would come at 8:30am.

Generally, people work for 1-3 hours per shift and come weekly,

biweekly or monthly.

Nester Township CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is comprised of citizen volunteers and professional first responders. Members train regularly in skills and principles related to general preparedness and disaster response. Specific topics include fire safety, light search & rescue, disaster medical operations, team organization and much more.

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center provides personalized educational support for both children and adults.  It’s this one-on-one interaction that enables us to build trust with our students and find out what THEY need, because everyone’s journey is different.

We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about serving the community. Volunteers at St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher (SVSF) Center serve as tutors to assist adults complete their GED journey. SVSF runs programs Monday through Friday, generally during the day with some evening opportunities available too. We pride ourselves in being able to grow our own fruits, vegetables and herbs for the residents that call Barn Sanctuary home. These provide nutrients above and beyond what residents can receive from their standard diets along with enrichment to support their mental health and wellbeing. Help us plant and maintain our gardens and enjoy a chance to share the produce with our birds, goats, pigs and many other species!

Public tours are offered every Saturday, May through October. Two time slots are available from 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm. During each of these tours, guests visit each barn and coop on property and have an opportunity to meet each rescued animal species. Led by a trained tour guide, visitors learn specific resident rescue stories and interesting facts about their species' nature and lived experience in the agriculture industry. Dedicated volunteers are needed to assist each of these tours.

Field trips at Barn Sanctuary offer a unique experience for children in K-8th grades to view our rescued animal residents up close, tour the grounds and facilities, and connect with our mission to create a safe haven where each individual animal is treated with empathy and compassion. We are in need of volunteers that are excited to share our mission with students from our local community. Volunteers will serve as chaperones for groups of students as they navigate the sanctuary with one of our sanctuary guides. They will be responsible for connecting with students, leading a craft or activity, and most importantly, ensuring the safety of our residents and guests.

Our shelter team works tirelessly to offer each animal in our care the highest possible quality of life with top-notch medical care and enriched, clean and safe living environments. Help staff keep our barns and coops clean to ensure that each of our residents get to live out the rest of their lives in dignity and comfort. Walk for about 30 minutes with a Kidney Companion. 

All walks will be in the Traverse City area and at least one existing vetted Kidney Companion will be there. The walks are intended to build a habit for patients pre and post transplant surgery as well as be a time to socialize.

Sometimes a walk will be for a larger crowd for broad community. Often times, we will schedule a walk with a patient close to their home with a smaller group.

The Refugee Mentoring Program works to provide appropriate adults to help meet the specific needs of the individual youth. Mentors help youth adjust to a new culture in the United States as well as improve their personal social and independent living skills. Mentoring is a great opportunity to make a difference in the life of a refugee youth far from home while building new friendships in the process.

Deliver meals to homebound seniors on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning giving them not only nutritious meals, but social connection too. As a tutor, you would be supporting adults in the Washtenaw County community to improve their English as a second language skills. Tutoring can take place in a variety of settings, such as libraries, community centers, adult education centers, and also online. Tutoring can be one-on-one or in groups. The role of a tutor is to support learners to achieve their goals and improve their language skills through personalized instruction and support.

Legislative Ambassadors are vital members of ACS CAN's volunteer team who cultivate relationships with elected officials to drive policy change on cancer-related issues They contribute significantly to prioritizing the fight against cancer at the federal, state and local levels. ACS CAN's key campaigns encompass increasing research cancer research funding, reducing tobacco's impact through legislation and enhancing programs to address health disparities and improve the quality of life for those affected by cancer. Our volunteers have access to the training, tools and resources needed to amplify their advocacy efforts.

If you are a mom, you are qualified!! Children don't come with a "how-to" manual but rather, you create the manual as raise your children. Now that you have all this expertise, share it with a new mom. You've been there! And you can encourage a young mom on her student parent journey with Hope for Single Moms.

Hope for Single Moms removes single mom families from high-risk poverty situations and gives them the tools they need to become economically independent. One of the ways we do that is to provide our families with a team of support while the mom is on her student parent journey. Part of that support is having an experienced mom, or team of experienced moms, paired up with a single mom family. Gather your three best friends to laugh, cry, hug and encourage single mom.

A team of four means each woman takes one week a month to check in with her "mom" and make a difference. There is a mentor training for some of the details about conveying a need to Hope for Single Moms. 

This is great for a women's bible study to be a mom team. Or the women in a church group can be part of a mom team, while the men and single ladies can be the rest of her life assistance team. Because we all know life can throw anyone curves.

Volunteers need to consent to and pass a background check.

Hope for Single Moms is growing! And that's a great thing because it means we can transform more single mom families in West Michigan. Hope for Single Moms removes single mom families from high-risk poverty situations and gives them the tools they need to become economically independent. We do that by helping single moms to get the career education they need to provide well for their families and find a path to a better, more fulfilling life; thus breaking the cycle of poverty. 

If you’ve ever thought you want to leave a legacy of caring, then Hope for Single Moms has a great opportunity for you! You can work from home, responding to emails from single moms and volunteers, as well as follow-up with them. The more you know about Canva, or a similar graphic design tool, the more opportunity you help us meet the increasing needs we get from the community. 

There would also be set hours each day where you will have phone calls forwarded to you.

This is currently a volunteer position but can lead to part-time paid employment, depending on your interest and availability. A paid position will include picking up print jobs, going to the post office and other smaller errands.

As a board member you will have a front row seat to these family transformations, as well as cast the vision for future growth and opportunities for HSM.

HOPE FOR SINGLE MOMS has grown from a start-up in 2016 to a respected changemaker in West Michigan, raising over $100,000 in 2022. Our goal is for every child to thrive and every single mom to become financially self-sufficient — first in West Michigan, and then, throughout the state. In order to achieve these objectives, we need to develop our programmatic impact and our organizational capacity. We are seeking volunteer leaders, who have a passion to help single mom families thrive, to join our dynamic board of directors.

Board members are actively involved in organizational governance, have the fiduciary responsibility of the organization and are expected to attend six-one hour bi-monthly board meetings, as well as personally donate. You will also receive training as a leader. You are the agency's biggest cheerleaders, and should invite your circle of influence to join you in changing the lives of two generations.

The Michigan Community Service Commission is launching a Skills Based Volunteer Service to support all Michigan Nonprofits.  We are seeking volunteers to serve as project managers and skills based volunteers.  Volunteers may serve as their schedule allows, select projects they are interested in serving on and volunteers may wish to serve as a project manager.  

Skills based volunteers are generally people who currently have the skill, education and background in a specific area or field of study.  Generally speaking most volunteers have at least two years experience in a certain area to be able to effectively deliver a project for a nonprofit.  Skills needed range from financial, communications, technology, volunteer management and business operations.  

The purpose of this position is to assist the Facilities Supervisor with shelter upkeep, maintenance issues, and special projects around the shelter.

Volunteers can schedule for weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis. Shifts can be scheduled M-F 9am-3pm or on weekends as arranged with staff.

We are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to come in every once in a while, to write thank you cards for all of the donations that we receive. We receive a multitude of donations, both material and monetary, and we want the people who donated to know how extremely grateful we are of their support. Having someone with the skill of both penmanship and creative writing ability to write those thank you cards would be extremely appreciated. 

We are look for caring compassionate people who are willing to serve people who are in the most vulnerable times of their life. We are looking for someone to be a set of helping hands to aid our caregiver from the hours of 4:00pm to 9:00pm. Those are the most difficult hours of the day for our staff, so to have another person there would be very helpful. We understand that not everybody is comfortable with tending to the needs of the elderly. That is not a requirement whatsoever. Our home is just like any other home in that it needs cleaned, it needs someone to greet anyone that comes through the door, it needs yard work done, etc. Having someone volunteer to fulfill those household duties would allow our caregivers to better focus on our guests.

Executive Director:

Brilliant Detroit will offer multiple literacy programs in-person for the summer of 2023. We are seeking new tutors to fill our growing student demand. In-person Volunteer Literacy Tutors will be asked to tutor small groups of 3-5 children, ages 5-8, according to their chosen program’s literacy curriculum. The summer session will start July 10th and end on August 24th. Tutoring sessions will occur Monday - Thursdays between the hours of 10am-2pm. We ask that volunteers commit to tutoring twice a week for 1.5 hours at a time. We will schedule your sessions based on your availability.

About Hospice Hospice is an extensive Program for anyone with a diagnosis or decline in health that could limit their life expectancy to 6 months or less if the disease/decline runs its normal course. Our Volunteer Program At Heart to Heart Hospice our volunteers are a vital part of our hospice team. Together we can help improve the quality of life for hospice patients. Volunteers provide service to patients in a number of different ways. Depending on your interests, skills, talents, and the amount of time you have, there are a variety of ways that you can help. Some of the ways our volunteers make a difference in the lives of patients are through...... Respite/Break for the caregiver Companionship Activities Pet Therapy Clerical/Office Work All volunteers receive orientation and training to ensure they feel comfortable with their tasks. Training is held at our office in Flint at a time convenient for the perspective volunteer. Training is approximately 1 hours and generally covers the following areas: Philosophy of hospice care A comprehensive overview of services offered by the hospice Physical, emotional, social, and spiritual issues that people can encounter at the end of life An overview of chronic and life-limiting illnesses Effective communication skills when speaking with the patient and family members Information about interpersonal family issues and relationships Basic information about grief and loss. Volunteers are required to be fingerprinted, have a background checks, and receive the two-step TB tests. There is no cost involved to the volunteer. However, we ask that the volunteer commit to being available one time a week for at least one year. Volunteers must be 18 or older and must provide their own transportation. All volunteers must have covid vaccinated or have an excuse waiver.

OVERVIEW

We are looking for enthusiastic people to lead the Diabetes Personal Action Toward Health (PATH) workshop in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. 

Diabetes PATH is a recurring six-week workshop in which trained lay leaders (this is where you come in!) help people with diabetes learn skills to manage their condition and improve their quality of life.  Topics include healthy eating, physical activity, monitoring blood sugar, managing emotions, action planning, and much more

Visit with hospice patients to provide companionship or respite care. Volunteers will visit with patients 1 - 2 hours a week talking to patients, reading, playing cards, or helping patients write letters. Volunteers can sit with patients while family members may need a break or have to leave for appointments. Volunteers can also provide hand massage, aromatherapy, or gardening.

There are opportunities to visit with hospice patients in Frankenmuth, Saginaw, the Thumb area, and surrounding areas within 50 miles of Frankenmuth.

Teach one learner how to read by focusing on letters, sounds, and spelling patterns.

You’ll be able to teach learners of all ages and abilities how to read better.  Our scripted curriculum, The Barton Reading and Spelling System, was designed with you in mind.  Each lesson, list, and reading passage is scripted so you can focus on getting to know your learner and help them reach their goals.  You'll work with the same learner two hours a week until they reach grade level.

Most of our learners have warning signs of dyslexia, the most common cause of reading failure.

A minimum of a presently enrolled student in a community college or degree granting institution, but preferably a college senior pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: Philanthropy, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field. Responsibilities will include researching available and applicable grants, research and apply for giving programs, create spreadsheet outlining grantor requirements and application deadlines, write solicitations for potential donors, write compelling nonprofit documents in preparation for grant, draft full grant proposals for submission, assist in compliance and reporting requirements for grantors/funders, write passionate promotion messaging geared toward donors.

Hired In Michigan is looking for an adult education teacher to become a part of our workforce development career coaching team (virtual remote). We provide a resume (CV) writing and make-over for professionals in various industries. We also provide LinkedIn profile optimization, employment interview preparation, and resume writing education.

This is an externship position with a fixed work schedule, and you are welcome to work from home. You will assist individuals in writing and editing resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn® Profiles using customers' existing resumes and additional information submitted by them. You will interact with customers via email, social media, live, and zoom presentations. Some assignments require telephone (skype) interviews with clients.

Volunteer Students will receive two American Council on Education (ACE️(r)) credit recommendations in Marketing for a Lower-Division Baccalaureate.

The volunteer externship program is five months in length with a flexible weekly schedule; after the externship, students receive a professional certification in Meta Social Media Marketing, two credit recommendations, professional accreditation, and a recommendation letter for resume submission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Instruction is online virtual.

·         Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.

·         Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

·         Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the online classroom.

Volunteer tutors meet with one learner two hours a week.  Twelve hours of training are provided as well as all tutoring materials.  Volunteers must complete a background check.  A one-year commitment is preferred.

Volunteer tutors meet with one learner two hours a week.  Tutoring can take place in-person or online.  Six hours of training are provided as well as all tutoring materials.  Volunteers must complete a background check.  A one-year commitment is preferred.

Shop for food, haul food from the warehouse with a dolly or greet guest safely at Drive Thru Pantry.  Open Door Outreach Center 7170 Cooley Lake Road at Hospital Road in Waterford MI.  Needs volunteers on call Tuesday-Friday 10-4pm to help feed the hungry in 10 communities surrounding the Lakes Area.

Due to covid19 we have lost funds and lost volunteers.  We are hoping to have a on call group of pantry workers who can work either 10-1pm or 1-3pm one day a week.

Volunteers needed to sort, price, arrange thrift store merchandise.

Volunteers are responsible for welcoming students in the afterschool program, leading with tutoring on their homework, facilitating activities, games, snack times, and supporting any needs that arise for program efficiency. The program starts on Sept 12th 2022, running Mon. - Thur 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Volunteers must commit to volunteering for a minimum of one day a week for the duration of the 6-month commitment.

The Otsego-Antrim County Habitat for Humanity is seeking help from skilled labors.  These volunteers will be called as needed to assist with home repairs and rebuilds as necessary following the tornado that occurred in May 2022.

HVAC

Electricians

Anyone who has the ability to assist with these repairs is asked to sign up under respond and share which skills they have and when they are typically available.  Volunteers will be notified when help is needed.

The Refuge in Otsego County, is coordinating temporary housing for individuals who have been displaced from their homes due to the tornado.  The organization is looking for a variety of different types of housing including land for a camper/RV (with electrical hookup), apartments, houses, and hotel rooms.

Our guests have access to two clothing rooms: one for men, and one for women and children. Similar to retail, our clothes need to be sorted, tagged, and stocked to be made available for our guests. This is a work at your own pace job, non-strenuous, and behind the scenes.
