The MAEO STARS College & Career Competition will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Delta College in Bay City (Delta Rd.) from 8:30-4. Delta has hosted this competition for the last 7 years. We need 30 people total to judge our events. Ideally judges would be able to judge all day, to ensure consistency in judging; all-day volunteers will receive a lunch voucher to be used at the cafeteria at Delta College. We like to have 2 judges/event. Responsibilities would include managing and judging high school students using a scoring rubric. Judges will be interacting with the students they are judging in a particular event. Thus, judges will be responsible for placing students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Our experience is that this single event can be "life-changing;" our alternative students and their schools come away with a new sense of pride and self confidence that is gained from spending the day with their alternative peers and competing in events that "simulate" real life experiences. Our event is kind of like a DECA competition. A little bit about our event: alternative high schoolers compete against other alternative students in a variety of events. Events range from employment interviewing to decision making, to project demonstration, to artistic display and performance, to school banners, to Life Smarts etc. Events consist of both individual and team contests.
