In recent years, our state has experienced an increase in natural disasters from severe weather, flooding and tornadoes. While the events can last a short period of time, the recovery often last years and disproportionately affecting those who are vulnerable including children, those with limited resources, disabilities, and seniors. Your service as a member of the Michigan Statewide Disaster Volunteer Team can make the difference in your community's recovery from a disaster.
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) is seeking volunteers to assist with a variety of common tasks that are needed at all phases of the disaster cycle. As a disaster volunteer, you can sign up for training offered by the MCSC and our partners. In addition, you can have your information shared with local organizers to help with tasks and engage local preparedness activities. As a volunteer, you have the flexibility of participating as your schedule permits and responding to nearby events. Common task include shelter set up and staffing, distributing supplies, door to door wellness checks, muck and gut clean up, debris pick up such as tree limbs, and chain sawing.
