Volunteer: Classroom Helper - Children's Dreamery Downtown Site

Position: Classroom Support                                                                     

DAYS: Any day, Monday-Friday.                                                                   

HOURS: Flexible Shifts between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm 

Edison Dreamery: Infants and toddlers up to 2.5 years of age _______________________________________________________________________________

Primary Function: As a Classroom Support volunteer, you’ll play a key role in helping our Dreamery Classrooms come to life! Support young children’s learning and development in a nurturing, play-based environment. This is a hands-on, heart-first opportunity to make a lasting impact on children in their earliest years.    

Qualifications:                                                                                       

1. Must be 18 years of age                                                                     

2. Patience and calm demeanor                                                               

3. Must be able to sit, bend, twist, and lift up to 20 pounds.

4. Openness to work with people of diverse backgrounds

5. Willingness to complete all required ILC training.

6. Agreement to fingerprint. YWCA covers all expenses related to this test.    Volunteers are not meant to substitute for employees; instead, they are invited to join us in assisting staff with needs.         

Responsibilities:

1. Assist with classroom needs to create a warm, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment                                                             

2.  Provide helpful, encouraging support to children                            

3. Model positive behavior and best classroom practices         

4. Observe children to ensure their safety and well-being         

5. Maintain confidentiality and respect for families, staff, and children                

Training Requirements:                                                                      

1. Gain a general understanding of YWCA's Mission                              

2. Understanding of the principles of racial equity and inclusion 

3. Completion of the following online training modules:                     

Bloodborne Pathogen                                                                               

Safe Sleep                                                                                         

Health and Safety for Childcare Providers Module C                           

Health and Safety

4. Must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds


Responsibilities:

Assist with food prep

Working closely with barn animals including horses, pigs, goats, and chickens. Assist with feedings, cleaning stalls/pens, exercising horses, and general maintenance around the barn. You may also assist individuals of varying abilities to mount and ride a horse safely by leading horse around barn or walking next to horse and spotting the rider. Fundraising Campaigns: Assist in planning and implementing fundraising campaigns specifically geared toward building projects.

Donor Relations: Identify and build relationships with potential donors, keeping them engaged with regular updates about the progress of building projects.

Event Support: Assist in planning and executing fundraising events that align with our building fundraising goals.

Grant Applications: Assist in researching and applying for grants related to building projects, in collaboration with the grant writing team.

Reporting: Help maintain accurate records of donations and prepare reports on fundraising progress towards building goals.

Required Experience & Skills:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Prior experience in a fundraising role or volunteering in a related capacity is a plus.

Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Basic understanding of fundraising strategies and donor relations. Organizational and multitasking abilities. Proficiency in MS Office or similar software.
